Carrier Rental Systems supplies major district cooling and heating scheme in Battersea, London

Carrier Rental Systems, the leading hvacr equipment hire specialist, has supplied high performance chillers and heating plant for a major district cooling and heating scheme in Battersea, London.

The unusual project involves the supply of 40 chillers and 20 electric boilers to provide temporary heating, domestic hot water and cooling for hundreds of premium apartments, part of a redevelopment of the iconic Battersea site located alongside the River Thames in central London.

As well as residential apartments, the eight multi-storey tower development includes parking, retail and leisure facilities, served by a district heating and cooling scheme, providing underfloor heating, hot water and air conditioning.

To fulfil the year-long contract, Carrier Rental Systems has invested in a new fleet of Aquasnap® chillers, each rated at 160kW and operating on high efficiency R407C refrigerant, plus new electric boilers, each rated at 300kW.

The equipment is housed in a basement area alongside the site’s permanent plant rooms, and connected to the piped services mains for the district heating and cooling scheme. It will provide full comfort cooling and heating and provide domestic hot water supplies while construction work on the development is completed, allowing sales and marketing activities for the apartments to proceed, thereby facilitating early occupancy.

Once the development project is complete in Spring 2016, the temporary plant will be decommissioned and disconnected, and the permanent heating and cooling systems switched on as part of a seamless switch-over. Carrier has won the contract to supply the new chillers for the scheme.

Simon Ward, Key Account Manager for Carrier Rental Systems, says: “The project is designed to enable the developers to start marketing and selling apartments and support early occupancy, with full services.”

He added: “Due to Carrier’s capabilities, we were able to secure investment in the necessary plant for the temporary project as well as supplying the equipment for the permanent chiller solution. Few companies have the combination of scale, financial strength and specialist plant hire capabilities to deliver such a major contract.”
