Carrier Rental Systems keeps Showdome cool for UK tour of In the Night Garden Live
Carrier Rental Systems, the leading hvacr equipment hire specialist, has supplied high performance air conditioning for the UK tour of In the Night Garden Live, based on the children’s television programme.
The popular musical show was staged in the Showdome, an inflatable temporary theatre and events space, at locations around the country. A combination of the structure’s excellent insulation properties and heat from theatrical lighting and visitors required mechanical cooling in order to maintain a comfortable environment for the audience, staff and performers.
The organisers, Minor Entertainment Ltd, asked Carrier Rental Systems to provide advice on the various options for cooling the auditorium and connected communal spaces. Carrier experts carried out a survey to establish the requirements for cooling and ventilation.
After discussions with the client, a detailed plan was drawn-up to deliver the comfort conditions required, taking into account different scenarios for weather conditions and occupancy levels.
The solution was based on a high efficiency Carrier 30RQS160 AquaSnap Heat Pump Chiller coupled with two CRS110 Air Handling Units, used to deliver cool fresh air into the Showdome. The chiller supplied water at 5°C to the air handling units, each of which is capable of delivering up to 10,000m3 of air per hour into the occupied space.
Hot air was extracted at high level with high velocity extraction fans and ejected to the atmosphere, while cooling was introduced via 600mm flexible ducting and focussed on the auditorium seating and stage area for maximum benefit to visitors and performers.
